기분 / 느낌 / 분위기 / 감

기분

this is used for emotions/mood

느낌

this is used for sensations and mindful feelings

.

.

Let’s say you get a massage. The 느낌이 of their hands is good and it makes you 기분이 good.

기분이 좋아요

-> to feel good. like you are in a good mood

느낌이 좋아요

->to feel good. like, the sensation of something feels good

기분 좋은 바람

a wind that puts you in a good mood

느낌 좋은 바람

a wind that feels good against your skin as it blows

Saying you “have a feeling”

느낌이 들다

-> to enter/hold/contain a sensation

내가 이상한 느낌이 들었어

I entered/have a strange feeling

날고 있는 느낌이 들어요

I feel like I’m flying

정말 기분 좋게 시작하는 느낌이 들어요!

Really good mood starting sensation I have!

(I feel like its off to a good start) (It’s something SF9 Inseong wrote)

.

So you identify the kind of feeling you have, and make it an adjective to describe 느낌.

~느낌이 들다

When someone asks why something is wrong you can say 느낌이다 (idk… it just feels wrong. “it’s just a feeling”)

분위기 and 감

분위기 is a feeling as in the atmosphere. so like a “vibe”

여기 분위기 정말 좋네 this place has such a good vibe!

is like a hunch/ sense

감을 잡다-> to get the hang of something (get the feeling for it)

We are just 3 students who wish to share the love and joy of learning Korean through lesson posts and translations! We are doing this for fun, based on our experience and questions we ask native speakers. We are not fluent! Just passionate  ~ Hannah, Shelbi, and Jordan

  1. Okay where have you been all my life? I was born in SoKo in Pohang and moved to the US when I was 9 so I can read everything but do not remember much of the vocabulary. I love that you write it in Korean and explain in English. This will help me relearn some Korean (I’m 53 I know tragic) thank you! I will go back and read all your posts but if you have not shared phrases like, where is the bathroom, I love BTS or Is this terminal 14? I would love you to share any of those. =) Gam Sa Ham Ni Da!

      1. And it does not matter if you were not fluent as long as you are sharing real advice and you’re not just googling are using a translator you are absolutely OK. If this is what you have learned then pass it on and there will be many people that can use it
